Another case of tall talks and more trouble is the RGV hyped Bachchan family film – Sarkar Raj. There was too much publicity prior to the film and too much hype and hoopla surrounded the husband-wife-Pa team coming together for first time. RGV had hoped that he would more than make up for the trash he had dished out as the remake of Sholay. Alas, the publicity and hypea round the film proved to be its biggest enemy. There was just too much of Bachchans all over and people had reached a point of fatigues by the time, the movie hit the screens.
People went with too much expectations but the whole movies came off like a damp squib. On the opening day itself, multiplexes reported a just 50% occupancy. And if they had hoped that word-of-mouth would propel the occupancy in the days ahead, well, that was not to happen. Infact it only went on to drop further as those who had seen the movie advised others to stay away. Distributors are now scared that they would be incurring a huge loss if the film does not do well. The film is expected to bring in only Rs.15-20 crore as against an investment of Rs.25 crore. The film was sold to Balaji Telefilms for Rs.42 crore. Unmindful of this, RGV has bravely announced that part 3 would also be made. Well, some people never learn!
